Best Lap Time Caught On Tape – Chumpcar World Series @ Laguna Seca

December 31, 2012 – We awaken the dormant Beast for the New Year’s Eve Chumpcar World Series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

This world-famous, historical race track features 11 turns in the 2.238-mile road course. Laguna Seca is well-known for her iconic esses bend “The Corkscrew” where the track drops 59-ft vertically in mere 450-ft horizontally; a 13.1% slope. In Civil Engineering perspective, a wheelchair curb ramp in your neighborhood can only have a maximum slope of 8.33%; the Corkscrew will never be ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant. Good thing there’s no sidewalk at The Corkscrew.

The car god, a British motor show presenter, Jeremy Clarkson drove on Laguna Seca in 2005, and managed the best lap time of 1:57 in a 290 bhp, all-aluminum Honda NSX.  His actual lap time was compared to his Gran Turismo best time of 1:41.

Therefore, we were questioning about how long it would take our 80 bhp all-steel Beast to complete a lap. Unfortunately, Gran Turismo doesn’t have a ’89 Sentra for us to test on, so we mimicked its performance using a Toyota Yaris and bested 2:06 in Gran Turismo. So if Mr. Clarkson was behind the simulator by 16 seconds,  should we expect our best lap time to be around 2:22?

With 2:22 in mind, let’s see how we did below…
